It didn’t hit me until I finally saw it for myself. World Series coverage. Announcements and introductions. And in the middle of it all: the New York Mets.
I’ve been dreaming of this day since Mike Piazza flew out to end the 2000 World Series and through all the ups and downs, continued to support and have faith, but even I have to admit that the fact that this is happening this year is pretty insane.
Sure, the Mets got off to a hot start…and flattened out. And looked OK, but hardly unbeatable.
And sure, the Nationals were better. Or should have been better. Or were going to get better. But they never did.
The Dodgers had home field. And spent all that money. And had two of the best, if not the two best pitchers in the game.
The Cubs were on a date with destiny. But the future came back to reality.
Which brings us to tonight. Game one. The New York Mets representing the National League in the 2015 World Series.
I couldn’t be more excited. Let’s go Mets.
